Job Purpose

Here at Halmer Recruit, we are currently recruiting for our busy client in Woking on a perm placement.

Summary of the role…

  • The purpose of this role is to support the Press & Fabrication’s Manager in all aspects of tooling, machine/equipment breakdown, special projects, including the facilities upkeep and maintenance. The ideal candidate will be largely positioned in the Tool Room where they will be operating manual and semi-CNC controlled machines, Having a keen eye for detail, you will be expected to plan your work efficiently to meet the needs of your internal customers (Press Shop, Fabrication, Assembly, R&D, Facilities) and manage external contractors to achieve key dates whilst maintaining the highest quality of workmanship. Being mechanically biased, with experience gained from a tool-making environment, including a sound understanding of Power Press machine processing, is key.

Main duties include but arent limited to the following…

  • Maintain safe working practices and observe Health & Safety regulations in accordance with Company Policy & current legislation at all times.
  • Ensure that the department maintains a high standard of Housekeeping (cleanliness of workspace and related areas) throughout.
  • Review daily Tool Room & Facilities plan/targets, highlighting critical paths and/or concerns to Line Manager.
  • Maintain current tooling and ancillary spares to support production and R&D activities.
  • Management of contractors where larger tooling jobs are outsourced – Includes Raising RFQ’s and maintaining External Works database, supporting good record keeping whilst progressing current state of active works.
  • Use of ERP ordering system to order small tools, materials, PPE, etc.
  • 1st line response to all Machine and Equipment breakdowns, following escalation process to resolve issue in a timely manner.
  • Manage Service Contractors and Statutory Inspections on site, responding to open actions/non-conformances, etc.
  • Maintain Logbook/Records for Machine/Equipment servicing and repairs, highlighting any future/planned necessary works supporting Quarterly and Annual Department Budget planning. 10. Support and maintain continuous improvements including 5S activities onsite to a high standard.
  • Supporting the Engineering Team with adhoc projects, including occasional small batch production of complex components to high quality standards.
  • First response to all Facilities related breakdown/callouts, etc. following escalation process to resolve issue in timely mannerThe ideal candidate will have the following…
  • Tool Maker 10+ years preferred.
  • Time Served Apprentice, with tool room and fitting experience.
  • Experience in the service and general repair of press tooling – Punch and Die.
  • Experience of fault finding and quality improvements in a production environment.
  • Good all-round engineering abilities.
  • Safe working knowledge of general tool room equipment.
  • Proficient in use of all related tools/equipment – Surface grinders, Mill, lathe, semi, CNC Mill, etc.
  • Use of engineering measuring instruments – Vernier, Micrometre, etc.
  • Understanding/experience of pneumatics, hydraulics and electrics would be an advantage.
  • Good understanding of manufacturing & assembly processes.
  • Knowledge of the materials, machinery and equipment related to metal fabrication/manufacturing.
  • Understand design principles of light metal work and be able to read, verify and interpret engineering/production drawings, material specifications and technical standards.
  • An understanding of Lean Manufacturing Techniques and reporting KPI’s.
  • Experienced in working to tight deadlines.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills, including IT Literacy.
  • Ability to coach and mentor team members.
  • Establish professional working relations with all internal customers and external contractors.
  • Self-motivated with a high level of urgency.Hours, days & pay…
  • Monday to Friday.
  • 07:45am until 16:30 pm (Half hour lunch break)
  • Fridays early finish of 11:45am.
  • Negotiable salary.

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Salary: Up to £27,000.00 per year
